Tax-Deferred Risk Management Accounts for Farmers
نویسنده
چکیده
Income tax incentives directly affect the economic feasibility of proposals for taxdeferred risk management accounts. Data indicate that despite clear financial advantages from tax deferment and reduced income variability, income targeting may preclude many farmers from contributing enough money for accounts to be effective.

Life-cycle stock market participation in taxable and tax-deferred accounts
The stock market participation rate for U.S. households with assets in both taxable and tax-deferred accounts is increasing with age in taxable accounts and decreasing with age in tax-deferred accounts. This paper asks whether a quantitative life-cycle model of portfolio choice can match these life-cycle patterns of stock market participation. The model incorporates several key features into a ...
متن کاملTaxation and Household Asset Location and Allocation: Evidence from the Bush Tax Acts
By exploiting the structural tax rate changes created by the Bush-era tax acts in 2001 and 2003, this study offers a first direct investigation of how the differential taxation of financial assets affects households’ asset location and allocation into taxable and tax-deferred accounts in a natural experimental framework. Because bonds are heavily taxed assets, relative to stocks, and tax treatm...
متن کاملOn the effects of tax-deferred saving accounts
In this dissertation, I develop a framework to study the effects of tax-deferred saving accounts on the aggregate economy. I incorporate tax-deferred saving accounts in a theoretical model of household’s life-cycle decisions, which is then linked to the real world data by calibration. I study the effects of tax-deferred saving accounts on the aggregate savings and the aggregate output, and furt...
متن کاملAsset location in tax-deferred and conventional savings accounts
This paper derives optimal asset allocations (which assets to hold) and asset locations (in which accounts to hold them) for a risk-averse investor saving for retirement. The investor can hold taxable corporate bonds, tax-exempt municipal bonds, and stocks either in a tax-deferred or a conventional taxable savings account. Taxable bonds have a preferred location in the taxdeferred account and t...
متن کاملThe Budgetary Cost and Welfare Effect of Tax-Deferred Retirement Saving Accounts
In this paper, we construct a dynamic general-equilibrium overlapping-generations model with heterogeneous households and analyze the macroeconomic, budgetary, and welfare effects of introducing tax-deferred retirement saving accounts similar to the U.S. 401(k) plans. We solve the model for equilibrium transition path to show both the long-run and short-run effects under several different finan...
